Lake Road Practice, Nutfield Place, Portsmouth, Hampshire PO1 4JT
Dr James P HoganMBBS MRCGP DRCOG FP Cert 1982 London
Qualified in 1982 from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School. After House jobs. I came to Portsmouth initially to train as an eye surgeon, but after a year swapped to the vocational GP training scheme.
Lake Road was my training practice, under Dr Cox, and on completion I was lucky enough to be offered a partnership in 1987. My special interests are in ophthalmology and diabetes care (especially care planning and self help).
I am married to Sheena, a nurse at Lake Road, and have 4 daughters. My hobbies include sailing and cycling. I am also involved in the PCT, helping with decisions about clinical care, and I am assisting with the setting up of a GP consortium in Portsmouth.
Dr Andrew W Scott-BrownMBCHB MRCGP DRCOG DOCCMed 1983 Aberdeen
A proud Scot, but born in Cornwall, I qualified from Aberdeen University in 1983 and served in the Royal Navy, mostly in Submarines but also Hong Kong. On leaving the service it seemed natural to want to make our family home in Portsmouth and I was delighted to join the practice in 1992. My special interests are in Dermatology and Occupational Medicine, particularly in seafarers and offshore workers.
I am married to Mary, a specialist in Elderly Mental Health and have two children, one a fifth Year Medical Student at Oxford and the other studying Science in Cambridge. Having had to give up cave diving because of injury my main hobbies are Sailing and falling off bicycles! I also serve on the Local Medical Committee representing grass roots GPs in Hampshire in all areas affecting their working lives.
Dr Kevin G VernonBM MRCGP DRCOG 1994 Southampton
Qualified from Southampton in 1994 and trained locally in QA until 2000 when I joined the practice as a registrar. I joined as a partner 2 years later and mainly looked after the patients at our Branch surgery in Chichester road until the 2 surgeries merged when Lake road was redeveloped.
I enjoy all aspects of general practice.
I am married to Sue and have 1 daughter Emma. Outside of work I enjoy walking with a playful (i.e. misbehaving) dog called Skye.
Dr Joe Shimbart
I completed my medical degree in Nottingham and then went on to General Practice training in Derbyshire before returning to the area. I am originally from the Portsmouth area and my family has had links to Portsmouth for many years. My main interest outside of work currently is building my house. This is quite a large project though I also enjoy playing badminton and when time allows landscape photography. Driving is another hobby though is taking a backseat currently until I finish self-building.
