What problems can the service help with?
BPAS provide confidential support to help decide if abortion, adoption or parenting is right for you.
BPAS provide terminations up to 24 weeks into the pregnancy. The service are able to offer a scan if you are unsure how far into the pregnancy you are.
You will also be offered the opportunity to discuss ongoing contraception.
The service also offers post termination care, including post termination counselling at any point in the woman’s life.
What problems can’t the service help with?
If you are, or could be, over 24 weeks you can still discuss your options with BPAS.
Who can use the service?
Any females who think they are pregnant and want to discuss their options, or knows without needing counselling that they would like to have a termination.
The service can also be accessed by any patients requiring post termination care and counselling.
How does patient access the service?
Self-referral via phone: 03457 30 40 30. The phone lines are usually open from 7am to 11pm every day.
Alternatively, out of hours you can leave a message and BPAS will return your call. Or you can request a call back via the website (www.bpas.org and click on book an appointment).
What can patient expect when they contact service?
When telephoning to book an appointment you will need pen and paper to hand. You will also need to provide your GP details and details of any medical conditions you have (please relay the GP details to the patient at this point).
Your appointment will consist of a consultation and a medical assessment before treatment. This is to make sure the abortion is legal and safe.
